Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology.From GATE Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT).It will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between February and March . Examination for some of the papers in GATE will be held in multiple sessions. To get admission for Master degree courses of Engineering in top Engineering Colleges in India required GATE Score.
GATE Exam details :-
Paper | Subject | No of questions | Time limit | Marks | Negative mark | Syllabus |
Paper 1 | Any subject | 65 | 3 h | 100 | yes | GATE Syllabus |
There is a total of 65 questions and maximum marks one can score is 100, with 1 negative marks for each wrong answer
After the evaluation of the answers, the raw marks obtained by a candidate will be converted to a normalized GATE Score.
From 2013, the GATE score is computed by a new formula.
The GATE Score of a candidate is computed from:
S = Sq + ( St - Sq ) ( M - Mq ) / ( Mt - Mq )
where,
S = GATE Score (normalised) of a candidate,
M = Marks obtained by a candidate in a paper,
Mq = Qualifying marks for general category candidates in the paper,
Mt = Average Marks of top 0.1% or 10 (which ever is higher) of candidates in the paper,
St = GATE Score assigned to Mt (around 900), and
Sq = GATE Score assigned to Mq (around 300).
Mq is usually 25 marks (out of 100) or μ+σ, whichever is higher. Here μ is the mean of marks in a paper and σ is the standard deviation.
GATE score remains valid for up to two year from the date of issue.
Old formula:-
Till GATE 2012 the score was calculated using the formula: GATE score
s = 10 { ag + sg [ m - a / s ] }
Where
m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
S = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
ag= global average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years
sg= global standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years
Which College / university accepts GATE test ?
Almost all AICTE/UGC approved Engineering Colleges/Universities/ Deemed Universities/ IITs NITS etc accept Gate scores
