Because after removing one electron from the atom the stability of the atom decreases as the number of protons means positive charge increases and the number of electrons means negative charge decreases so more attraction forces will be there on the remaining electrons towards the nucleus

we know the definition for ionization energy. it is the energy required to remove an electron...in an atom, an electron can be eAsily removed from the outer most shell...whereas it is difficult to remove an another electron... so ionization energy is greater in second IE
