Thymus secrete peptide hormone named thymosine. It help in accelerating cell division, thus influencing the rate of growth during early life(It also posses other functions). If it do not get degenerated then we will be growing as huge as monsters and our growth will be unrestricted and may also lead to various physiological problems. It is also the reason why that if a person gets obese undergo test for thymus gland.
