RMS value - the rms current is the equivalent dc current of any ac current which will produce the same amount of heat in a given time same time period. rms of ac 20A is 14.142 which is dc same effect ac. thus the magnitude of 14.142 and 10 is root[sqr(14.142) + sqr(10)] is 17.3A
